With Bala beating Ruthin the week before they wanted another scalp and Cefni were their unfortunate targets. With referee Alun Thomas in charge Bala kicked off with wind advantage and saw the first half play going from one half to the other, neither team managing to pierce defences and neither team threatening the other.
Eventually just before the half time whistle, from a Bala scrum 5 meter from the Cefni try line, the scrum was driven forward by the Bala pack allowing hooker Gethin Williams to touch down in the corner, an unsuccessful conversion saw Bala going in as the half time leaders 0 – 5.
Llangefni kicked off the second half, but failing to take full advantage of the wind early on in the half, through sloppy defence they allowed Bala fly half Rhydian Jones to run through three Cefni tackles and to cross the line, the second try for Bala which Jones converted making the score 0 – 12.
Llangefni discipline was found wanting, with referee Thomas yellow carding three Cefni players in the second half, effectively laving Cefni with just 14 men for 30 minutes of the half. The third yellow card saw the resultant scrum, which Bala had opted for once more being driven over the try line allowing hooker Gethin Williams to score, this time converted by fly half Rhydian Jones, the score opening up to 0 – 19.
Llangefni, now with 15 men fought back at Bala, and were awarded for their efforts just minutes before the end of play, when a scrum awarded to Llangefni some 7 meters from the Bala try line, saw Cefni driving forward before the ball came out to scrum half Mark Gray who went over for the try, but with an unsuccessful conversion kick, the score at full time Llangefni 5, Bala 19.
Llangefni travel to Llandudno next Saturday 17th September 2011 and hope to get their first win of the season.
